WIW 02.04 semi-tucked look for Angie

I know I haven't posted my outfits from this week yet, but I wanted to post what I'm wearing today: a semi-tucked look I tried a la JCrew for Angie (based off the 4th look on this blog post). I rather like it! My button-up is super soft cotton that's got some drape to it; I left the bottom button undone to keep the tucking slouchy looking. Also added a back shot so you can see that it looks quite normal from the back as well.

One year ago today...

...I started taking outfit photos and posting them, and also challenged myself not to repeat an outfit for a year ("outfit" defined as top+bottom+shoes), and did a DAW challenge but that didn't last the full year. It's been a Very Useful Thing. I've learned a lot about flattering my shape, how to effectively mix/remix clothes, and began to develop my personal style.

At this time last year I was rarely/never:
- layering well or at all
- paying attention to PPL (though I got it right by accident for a long time)
- wearing bottoms other than jeans
- wearing boots
- wearing accessories other than earrings
- doing anything with my hair
- wearing make up
- thinking about my outfits from head to toe
- paying attention to my outerwear
- able to put an outfit together in under 10 minutes

I'd say I've come a long way :)

Today I wore the dress I wore to start this project off (photo #1), in an outfit more true to my style (photo #2), though certainly a bit fancier; it IS a celebratory day after all! It's been a fun experiment and I plan to continue taking daily photos, though I think I'll allow myself repeats this year. I look forward to what another year of cataloging will bring!

EDIT: The whole year is on my website if you click the link. Clicking individual item links will display all outfits which use that item.

WIW 01.29-30

Outfits from this past weekend. Feeling neutral, apparently.

  1. Worn out for food and drinks with some friends. A smile for Angie (easier to do when hubby takes the photo) :)
  2. Worn out shopping with my sister. Based on one of Kelly's looks! (#1 from here)

Sheath alteration recommendations

Some of you may remember I purchased two sheath dresses a while back for my sadly lacking dressy capsule. The lace one was far too large and not flattering enough to have work done. However, the houndstooth one I love but it definitely needs to be altered (I still haven't had anything altered *ducking* so it's new to me).

The whole dress is a bit loose, and will continue to loosen as I lose some weight. The length is good as it's petite. But since I'm not petite on top, the arm holes seem a bit small and high/wide; the top shape looks more top heavy than I'd like but it could just me me not used to seeing myself in this type of dress. There is definitely too much fabric in the back, and I need to have that taken in (darts solve this, right?).

  1. Front view. Looks fine from the front, just a little loose. LOVE the pockets!
  2. Back view. You can see the extra fabric. Should tighten the whole thing up to get that taken in/darted, right?
  3. Side view. You can see the extra fabric due to my curvy lower back (left image is most accurate), and how snugly I'd like it to fit.
  4. Arm holes. They seem a bit small and high to me, do they need to be larger?
  5. Print/fabric. The fabric is actually knit but lined :)

Would love some feedback to see if I'm figuring this right. I'd like to get this to the tailor by the end of the week. Thanks everyone!

WIW 01.26-28

End of the week outfits from last week. All worn to work.

  1. Outfit I wore with the new moto-sweater. I wanted to emulate the silhouette my swapped olive top gives. I also was inspired to pull out my flared jeans for wear with flats, but I still find them tricky.
  2. I confess I ended up untucking this because the sweater was just too short to stay put! This is a top I'm on the fence about due to color, I'm not really into pink.
  3. I have worn this dress only once in the past year. It's too short to wear alone and the waist is too high for me. I rather like how this turned out though. Also the whole look was too sweet looking so I had to rough it up (hair, eyeliner, belt, and jacket); it got mixed reviews from family. Always have trouble with my denim jacket because they're pretty common where I live, but never worn stylishly; also I feel like it should be covered in spikes and patches ;)
